It's almost time for this to be over, she can tell. Any time now, really, and she's been ready for that for days. She waddles like a penguin anytime she goes anywhere, she can barely reach her own feet to put shoes on, and even sleeping has been uncomfortable lately. She's still unsure about what comes next, but at least Neal seems to think that they'll know what they're doing.

At least she'd found a different job, as the receptionist at a salon down the street. Answering phones is something she can do, they don't care if she sits all day, and since she'd started out as a client, they already knew her when they hired her. They also said they could manage without her for awhile after the baby's born.

Which she's really hoping is what's happening now. She's had twinges all day, irregular but unrelenting, and although she hasn't mentioned them to Neal, she knows that he probably knows something's up. She's been wandering around the apartment since she got home, even when he tried to insist that she should sit, because the book and the doctor both said not to go to the hospital yet, and that being active could help the process along. Besides, she's just restless and doesn't want to sit down.

She's in the kitchen getting a drink of water when it happens. There's a release of pressure, like popping the top off a bottle of champagne (or so she imagines, having never actually had champagne), and wetness down her legs. It's a good thing she's wearing a dress.

It's time, there's no doubt about it now, and she grips the edge of the sink as another contraction, a real one now, moves over her. "Neal!"

"That's what I'm afraid of." They got themselves into plenty of trouble. Who knows what things will be like in fifteen years.

"We should have some idea though. So we're not blindsided."

Neal looked over at her with a raised eyebrow. "I think we should keep him from crying over worrying about girls. It'll be fine Emma."

"I'm not worried about him and girls." Especially given his father's tricks. She doubts that Neal's attempts would have worked on anyone else.

Neal laughed. "What are you worried about then?" It feels like its something.

"That he'll end up like us, somehow. Us before all of this, I mean." Neither of them had had anything holding them anywhere until they had each other. They don't exactly have clean records, and she doesn't know how much longer they have to wait until Neal no longer has to worry about getting in trouble for the watches.

Neal moved closer to Emma, wrapping his arm around her shoulders and squeezing her close. "He's not growing up without his family." He'd make sure of it.

"I know that." She'll do whatever is necessary to make sure Henry has a better life than they did, and she knows that Neal will too. "I meant...living on the street. Stealing to get by. I don't want him to end up like that."

"He won't." Neal kept his smile confident. "Hey, my office has locations in other areas. If you want to move out of the city we can."

It'd take time but Emma and his family was worth it.

"No. I like the city." It's a lot more exciting than the childhood she had. "He'll have a lot of opportunities here."

"True. We'll have to start looking at day care also. Unless you want to stay home more?" He looked over at her. His job earned them enough money for her to take up her mind but things were tight.

He'd support her going back to work or her changing professions. It was whatever she wanted.

"I love Henry, and I already love being a mom, but there's no way I want to stay home with him all day. I like having some adult contact too. Plus I think day care would be good for him. Get him used to other people." She knows it will cost money, but they'll figure it out.

Neal nodded his head. "I'll start looking into it." She leaned forward and kissed Emma's forehead. "We have time. Here, let me clean up." He took her plate and headed back towards the kitchen. clean up was quick but he had to put the left overs away so that Emma could take them to go.

When he comes back in, Emma has taken Henry back out of his carrier and is cuddling under a blanket with him tucked up against her. "See, daddy's back. I told you he would be."

Neal laughed as he stepped over to pull both Emma and Henry into his arms. He kissed her forehead and then Henry's.

"Did you think I was leaving? Don't you know that you're stuck with me?"

"Oh. Well I guess we can live with that. Since we have to and all." She grins at him. She's just teasing him.

Neal shook his head. "It's getting late. Do you think you can sleep?" He had to work in the morning but he'd stay up with Emma if she wanted.

"I'll be working from home for the net few weeks as we transition."

"I think I will have no trouble getting to sleep." It hasn't been that long since she had a baby, after all. She's still tired. "I think Henry has the right idea."

He laughed, holding Emma in his arms as he kissed her. "I love you Emma." He then kissed Henry before ushering them towards the bed room.

"We love you, too." Emma will be speaking for her son for awhile still, but she doesn't think Henry will mind her doing that in this case. "We'll see you in a few hours."
